April 28th 2022 Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Every fourth Thursday in April the world
celebrates International Girls in ICT Day under diverse themes. The theme for 2022 is
“Access & Safety.”
The African Union in collaboration with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU)
commemorate the day by organizing different events that supports girls in ICT at AU
headquarter, Mandela plenary Hall on 28th April 2022.
In the event that celebrates girls and young women and encourages them to pursue
studies and careers in the technology sector through training of coding, development of
mobile applications and IT keynote speeches were delivered. An ITU Regional Director
Ms. Anne-Rachel Inne, Ethiopian Innovation and Technology ministry State Minister H. E
Huria Ali and the AU representative of Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy Ms.
Souhila Amazouz delivered opening remarks to the attendees.
In her opening and closing remarks, Ms. Anne appreciates Huawei’s support in various
programs of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Huawei public Relations
Director for Cameroon and CEMAC Zone Ms. Edmond, on her hand mentioned Huawei
ICT Academy, Seeds for the Future and UNESCO Huawei open school for all projects
among others as Huawei contribution in Education on the African continent. “Digital is the
future, digital is going to open your avenue and opportunities in the world.” She added
during the panel discussion.
In the panel discussion session HUAWEI delivered a video message that inspires young
Girls in ICT. The panel discussion was enriched by interventions from various African
Countries such as Zimbabwe and Côte d’Ivoire.
In the event there was an ICT competition among the girls. Huawei awarded the winners
with its products which is Huawei p50 Pro cell phones.
International Girls in ICT Day, established by ITU and celebrated in over 150 countries
around the world.
