Government Calls for Stronger AI and Data Labeling Capacity in Tech Sector

It has been emphasized that actors in Ethiopia’s technology sector must strengthen their knowledge and skills in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Labeling to support the country’s digital transformation agenda.

The Ministry of Innovation and Technology has conducted a targeted training program focusing on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Labeling two critical fields playing a decisive role in Ethiopia’s ongoing digital transformation journey.

Speaking at the opening of the training, State Minister of Innovation and Technology, Dr. Bayisa Bedada, highlighted that AI and Data Labeling are key technologies for improving service delivery and operational efficiency across both public and private institutions.

The State Minister noted that the government is working with strong commitment to ensure these technologies are applied to address domestic challenges while creating inclusive opportunities that benefit all segments of society.

Dr. Bayisa further stressed that building human capital capacity is a top national priority in the development of Ethiopia’s digital economy. He underlined that equipping citizens with adequate knowledge and practical skills in AI and Data Labeling will significantly contribute to the creation of broad employment opportunities in the technology sector.

The Ministry of Innovation and Technology reaffirmed its commitment to expanding similar capacity-building programs to strengthen the foundations of the national digital economy and enhance citizen participation in the technology ecosystem.

Participants of the training program also emphasized that translating the acquired knowledge into practical application will enable them to play an effective role in Ethiopia’s technological transformation process. They called for the continued strengthening and expansion of such initiatives to sustain momentum in the country’s digital development efforts.
