The integration of private healthcare facilities with public health institutions is essential for ensuring accessible and high-quality medical services in Ethiopia, according to Dr. Ayele Teshome, Deputy Minister of Health.
During his visit to Swiss Diagnostics Ethiopia, Dr. Ayele emphasized that collaboration between private and public healthcare institutions is key to addressing the shortage of specialized medical services. He stressed the urgent need to support citizens facing critical health challenges, many of whom are forced to seek treatment abroad.

“The high capacity of private healthcare facilities should be effectively leveraged to complement the country’s limited national resources,” he stated. “By fostering public-private partnerships, we can provide timely, high-quality medical services at affordable costs.”
Dr. Ayele also noted that the government is developing policy frameworks to institutionalize structured cooperation between public and private healthcare providers. This initiative aims to reduce the financial burden of overseas medical treatment and expand access to specialized care within Ethiopia.
Swiss Diagnostics Ethiopia, a leading private healthcare provider, is committed to enhancing diagnostic services by introducing advanced medical equipment and expertise. According to Managing Director Yetnayet Tamrat, the company seeks to make modern diagnostics more accessible to Ethiopian citizens.

Dr. Ayele underscored that strengthening public-private partnerships is crucial for optimizing national healthcare resources and improving service delivery. He added that such collaboration aligns with Ethiopia’s broader healthcare reform efforts, fostering a more sustainable and resilient system.
