Ethiopian reggae artist, Sami Dan, celebrated the release of his new album at the Marriot Hotel in Addis Ababa on December 6, along with a guest list that included music & entertainment industry peers and friends.
In partnership with Johnnie Walker™, the event also paid tribute to Sami Dan’s music and personal evolution over his career, as reflected on the new EP. Titled “ቅፅበት” (“Moment”), Sami wrote all the album’s tracks on the road, while on tour in the USA.
“The seven tracks all have different messages and talk about the moments that can create revolution in our lives. I’m really excited for the album and what it means to me at this point in my career,” says Sami Dan.
While he began his career in music at high school, Sami released his debut solo album, “Keras Gar Negeger”, in 2016, winning album of the year, best new artist, best music video and best new single at the Leza Awards in 2017 and made his debut performance at East Africa’s Sauti Za Busara festival in the same year and Rototom Sun Splash in 2018.
In the EP, ‘Moment’, Sami Dan has worked with some of Ethiopia’s other music industry visionaries, including artists Kuul Sure and Tinsae (who feature on two tracks) and producers Flashkiiddo, Jordan & Bek Ge’ez and Andy Bete Zema.
