On the sidelines of the 2025 World Bank and IMF Spring Meetings, Ethiopia’s Finance Minister, H.E. Ahmed Shide, held a high-level meeting with the CEO of the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), H.E. Sultan Abdulrahman Al-Marshad.
The bilateral discussion marked a significant step forward in strengthening economic cooperation between Ethiopia and Saudi Arabia. The meeting centered on Ethiopia’s ongoing economic reform agenda and its priority development areas, with both parties exploring avenues to deepen SFD’s engagement and investment footprint in Ethiopia.

Minister Shide emphasized the critical importance of international development partners like SFD in supporting Ethiopia’s transformation and inclusive growth. He also presented Ethiopia’s current reform efforts focused on macroeconomic stability, investment climate enhancement, and infrastructure development.
H.E. Sultan Abdulrahman Al-Marshad reaffirmed SFD’s commitment to supporting Ethiopia’s development journey and expressed interest in scaling up funding for priority sectors such as energy, agriculture, water, and transport.
The meeting concluded with a shared understanding of the mutual benefits of enhanced cooperation and a commitment to accelerate joint efforts toward impactful development initiatives.
