The Ministry of Water and Energy signed a contractual agreement with Aser Construction PLC for the construction of the Mekelle City Wastewater Collection, Treatment, and Disposal Operation and Maintenance Project.
The agreement was signed by His Excellency Dr. Eng. Habtamu Itefa, Minister of Water and Energy. The Minister emphasized that Aser Construction has extensive experience in similar projects and urged the company to exert its utmost effort to ensure that the people of Mekelle benefit from the project’s successful implementation.
The Minister also pledged that, in collaboration with the Mekelle City Water Supply and Sanitation Service Office, the Ministry will provide all necessary support to ensure that the challenges of the city’s residents are resolved promptly and that the community benefits from the development.
Dr. Ashenafi Ze’abreha, Director General of the Mekelle City Water and Sanitation Service, expressed gratitude for the direction and support provided and stated that both the regional and city administrations are committed to delivering quality work that will directly benefit the community.

Mr. Yemane Abraha, General Manager of Aser Construction, highlighted the company’s previous participation in major water projects and assured that, with the city administration’s cooperation, they will complete the project swiftly and with high quality.
Mr. Negash Adugna, Technical Advisor for the Secondary Cities Water Supply and Sanitation Project, emphasized that with the close monitoring and support of the Minister, the project is expected to move into implementation immediately and begin providing services soon.
He further noted that since Mekelle City’s population exceeds one million, they are confident that the project will be completed within a short time and will begin benefiting residents promptly.

The construction and maintenance work valued at 397,299,678.22 Ethiopian Birr and 12,282,324.06 US Dollars is being funded with the support of the World Bank. According to the agreement, the project is expected to be completed within 18 months.
