Over the past six years, the government has been undertaking extensive tourism infrastructure and development projects, according to Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Minister of Tourism, Selamawit Kassa.
The Ministry of Tourism reported that during the six-month period of the 2017 fiscal year, Ethiopia, endowed with numerous cultural, historical, and natural resources, has been working to fully utilize these assets for its benefit.

Mr. Thewodros Derebew, presenting the Ministry’s six-month performance report, stated that various efforts have been made to enhance international promotion activities, increase the flow of foreign tourists, and expand market share.
In the past six months, the target was to attract 595,218 foreign tourists, but 661,870 tourists visited Ethiopia.
The revenue target was set at USD 2.23 billion, but USD 2.4 billion was achieved.
Additionally, during the six-month period, the target was to facilitate the movement of 18.2 million domestic tourists, but over 29 million traveled within the country, generating ETB 46.5 billion in revenue.
