In a remarkable recognition of leadership and contribution, Dr. Feteh Weldesenbet was honored with awards in two distinct categories at the 5th International African Builders Conference in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, on Saturday, March 29, 2025.
Dr. Feteh, the President of the Ethiopian Hotel and Tourism Employers Federation and the President of both the Ethiopian and East African Handball Federations, received accolades in the African Builders and African Impact Awards, marking his exceptional influence in these sectors.
The prestigious event, held at the renowned Central Yamarech Hawassa Hotel, gathered distinguished guests, including ambassadors from various African nations, civil society leaders from West African countries, and several nominees recognized for their impactful contributions across diverse fields.
During the conference, Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Côte d’Ivoire and Cameroon, Her Excellency Shitaye Minale, highlighted Ethiopia’s historical role in African unity, peace, and progress, particularly referencing the Adwa victory as a landmark in anti-colonial resistance. She expressed gratitude to the organizers for acknowledging Ethiopia in the African awards platform.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Feteh attributed his success to strategic leadership, market-driven management, and his unwavering commitment to social responsibility. He specifically honored the late W/ro Amarech Zeleke, founder of Central Yamarech Hawassa Hotel, acknowledging her pioneering efforts in the hospitality industry.
Dr. Feteh also took the opportunity to promote Ethiopia’s unique identity on the global stage, emphasizing its rich heritage, including its status as the cradle of early civilization, the land of coffee, and home to an indigenous script and numeral system. He highlighted Ethiopia’s tourism potential and encouraged attendees to explore investment opportunities in the country.
The event featured a high-level media panel discussing Africa’s development through media influence, underscoring the crucial role of communication in shaping the continent’s future.
Dr. Feteh and his family have made significant investments in Sidama, particularly in Hawassa, through major development projects such as an international-standard resort and water park. These initiatives, along with his commitment to national and regional responsibilities, were recognized as key factors in his receiving these prestigious awards.
