Chinese Business Associations Prepare to Expand Investments in Ethiopia.

Chinese business associations are preparing to expand their investments in Ethiopia a move expected to significantly boost economic cooperation between the two nations.

The announcement came during a high-level meeting between H.E. Gao Yunlong, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and Chairman of the China Federation of Industry and Commerce, and Dr. Zeleke Temesgen, Commissioner of the Ethiopian Investment Commission (EIC).

Commissioner Zeleke welcomed Gao Yunlong and his delegation at the EIC headquarters, emphasizing the longstanding investment partnership between Ethiopia and China. He noted that over 3,500 Chinese companies have already invested more than $9.5 billion in Ethiopia, making China one of the country’s leading investment partners.

The discussion underscored the importance of further strengthening Ethiopia–China collaboration in the areas of investment, trade, and industrial development. Gao Yunlong revealed that more than 55,000 business associations across China are being encouraged to consider Ethiopia as a key destination for investment expansion.

Dr. Zeleke extended a formal invitation to Chinese investors to participate in the upcoming “Invest in Ethiopia” Forum, scheduled for May 12–13, 2025, and to explore new opportunities across Ethiopia’s priority sectors.

Chairman Gao commended Ethiopia’s ongoing development efforts and reaffirmed China’s strong interest in supporting the country’s economic transformation through enhanced investment and business partnerships.
