Addis Ababa – March 12, 2025 (ABN)

Alemu Sime (Dr.), the Minister of Transport and Logistics, has been appointed as a member of the board of the United Nations Road Safety Fund (UNRSF).

In a letter of appointment addressed to the Minister, it was stated that Ethiopia’s efforts in formulating a National Road Safety Strategy and incorporating road safety education into the curriculum demonstrate the country’s commitment to ensuring road safety.

The letter also highlighted that the development of convenient bicycle and pedestrian paths, as well as improved road connectivity projects under the Corridor Development Project, contribute to enhancing the country’s transport infrastructure.

The African Economic Commission, recognizing Ethiopia’s dedication and efforts in road safety, has acknowledged and endorsed Alemu Sime’s (Dr.) appointment as a member of the board of trustees under the UNRSF.

The Ministry of Transport and Logistics indicated that the Minister’s appointment to the board presents a valuable opportunity for Ethiopia to share its experiences with other countries and gain access to best practices in road safety from around the world.

The UNRSF was established in April 2018 and is an institution that works to raise additional funds and support for high-impact projects at the global level.
