Addis Ababa Builds Parking Facilities for 35,000 Vehicles

Addis Ababa, October 13/2025(ABN)

Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abebie announced that over 150 modern parking facilities and terminals have been constructed across the capital, with the combined capacity to accommodate 35,000 vehicles at once.

Speaking during the 1st regular session of the 3rd Addis Ababa City Council’s five-year term, Mayor Adanech highlighted that these developments are part of the city’s broader effort to modernize its transportation infrastructure and improve accessibility for residents.

According to the Mayor, 100 new electric buses were introduced during the 2017 Ethiopian fiscal year, aligning with the city’s commitment to promoting sustainable and eco-friendly public transport. Currently, around 1,600 buses are operating across Addis Ababa, serving thousands of commuters daily.

Mayor Adanech also emphasized that while significant progress has been made to enhance transportation efficiency, the city’s rapid population growth and high urban density continue to pose challenges, placing pressure on the existing public transport system.

Addis Ababa’s transport development initiatives ranging from modern parking construction to electric mobility adoption reflect the city administration’s vision to make Ethiopia’s capital a model for integrated and green urban transport in Africa.
